The ethnically and musically diverse American hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas sings about the oneness of all of the world’s people, proclaiming humanity as “One Tribe”, and asks everyone to strive to bring peace and unity.
5) Michael Franti and Spearhead – Bomb the World
With a sound that blends hip-hop, reggae, and rock, Michael Franti and Spearhead’s “Bomb the World” is a protest against the war and militarism that has encompassed the world post 9/11. As they say in their song, “We can bomb the world to pieces, but we can’t bomb it into peace.”

6) 2Pac – Changes
“Changes” was released posthumously two years after American rapper 2Pac was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting. Known as one of the most prolific rappers of all time, in this song 2Pac highlights a variety of social ills, from “war in the streets” to “war in the Middle East”, and calls for people to “start making some changes” because “the old way wasn’t working”.
7) Nabil and Karim – Spiritual Revolutionary
Canadian hip-hop group Nabil and Karim use a synergistic blend of soul soothing melodic passages and electrically charged rap sequences to inspire hope and positivity. “Spiritual Revolutionary” calls on the young changemakers of the world to “spend some time in reflection” and realize that the power to change the world is in their hands.
8) Nas – I Can
Renowned American rapper Nas provides an anthem for children to work hard, follow their dreams, and be a positive change in the world. The lyrics of “I Can” are aimed at African-American youth of the inner-cities of the United States, however, the message serves as an inspiration for people all over the planet.
9) John Legend – If You’re Out There
R&B singer-songwriter John Legend makes the plea for the current generation of young people that want to make a difference to step up and take action. Legend shares that the song “was inspired in part by Obama’s candidacy, and also by the increased level of optimism and involvement of my generation. Because I’ve been inspired by it, I wanted to encourage it.”
10) Michael Jackson – Man in the Mirror
Singer-songwriter and international pop icon Michael Jackson delivers a soul-stirring hit that invites each of us to look at ourselves in the mirror and try to become a better person. As Jackson states it in his song, “If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.”
